Maryland Economic Development Week Highlights Partnerships that Strenghten State's Competitiveness

Fri, 09/23/2011

The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) is pleased to announce Maryland’s first-ever Economic Development Week. To be held October 24-28, Economic Development Week will recognize the partnerships that create and retain jobs and encourage investment throughout the State of Maryland.

Highlighting economic development’s significance to Maryland over the past 50 years, Economic Development Week “aims to raise awareness of economic development and its importance across the state, while recognizing the extraordinary impact that partnerships have had in increasing job growth and investment in Maryland,” explains Laurie M. Boyer, CEcD, President of MEDA.

Sponsored by Comcast and the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO), Economic Development Week will recognize award-winning economic development projects that have enriched Maryland’s economy.

In addition, the Week will feature a series of economic development-oriented conferences, meetings, and workshops in each region of the state, culminating on Friday, October 28 with the MEDA Fall Conference. To be held at the Turf Valley Conference Center in Ellicott City, MD, the MEDA Fall Conference will focus on new ideas reaching the marketplace, economic strengths and weaknesses, and initiatives and individuals who have made a tremendous mark on Maryland’s economy.

“MEDA’s 50th anniversary year is a perfect time to bring to the projects, programs, and people to the forefront who have made a commitment to improving the business climate in Maryland and to encourage continued efforts going forward,” says Boyer. “Businesses, along with state, local, and county partners, are finding innovative ways to highlight Economic Development Week and we invite everyone to participate.”
