Cambridge, Maryland: The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 MEDA Awards:

Economic Development Project of the year was NCI@Riverside - Riverside Research Park, nominated by the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, a premiere biomedical research and development center that will significantly impact the regional workforce and economy.

Transportation, Logistics and Cargo (TLC) Security Program, nominated by Anne Arundel Community College, was named Economic Development Program of the Year. TLC created and implemented a comprehensive training program to support the transportation industry nationwide.

Miller's Court, nominated by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, was named Economic Development Redevelopment Project of the year. Miller's Court was lauded for creative reuse and rehabilitation of a historic structure and the subsequent renewal of a Baltimore neighborhood.

The Economic Development Marketing Award was presented to the Website Launch to Rebrand the New Hampshire Avenue Corridor: The New Ave - Where Takoma Meets the World! This fresh, informative website and re-branding campaign, nominated by the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, is helping to revitalize a diverse retail corridor.

From Vines to Wines, nominated by the Queen Anne's County Department of Economic Development, Agriculture and Tourism, received the Regionalism Award. From Vines to Wines is a regional collaboration supporting the local agricultural industry while creating jobs and opportunities for residents of the Upper Shore.

The Judges Award went to The Sawyer Revitalization Project / 142 Washington Street, nominated by the City of Havre de Grace.

This year's 2010 Individual Awards were headlined by the MEDA Hall of Fame Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award. Winners were: Robert Hannon and George Dredden, respectively. Robert Hannon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, was honored with a Hall of Fame Award for his outstanding contributions to Maryland's economic development over the past three decades. George Dredden, Volunteer of the Year, is a former banker and entrepreneur who has helped businesses and organizations grow and prosper throughout Frederick County and the State of Maryland.

The fifth annual MEDA Economic Development Awards were held at the MEDA Annual Conference in Cambridge, Maryland. Sponsored by Miles & Stockbridge, P.C., the awards recognized outstanding efforts to attract new businesses, assist existing businesses, redevelop business districts, market communities, and support workforce development initiatives, tourism activities, and agricultural programs.

MEDA enhances the knowledge and skills of its more than 500 members and encourages partnerships and networking among those committed to bringing jobs and investment to Maryland. Since 1961, MEDA has operated as a nonprofit organization of economic development professionals, whose members promote the economic well being of Maryland and work to improve the state's business climate.
