This conference aims to identify creative and innovative programs that can speak to this economic challenge. \n9:00 – 9:15     WELCOME AND MEDA BUSINESS MEETING \n9:15 – 10:15    KEYNOTE – “Anirban Basu and the Chamber of Data” \nThere is light at the end of the tunnel.  Is it coming from an oncoming train?  This presentation supplies economic data and analysis juxtaposing the pre-pandemic and pandemic world\, and then supplies a forecast for the post-pandemic one.  Among the areas of focus are labor markets\, financial markets\, real estate\, construction\, consumer spending\, business investment\, international trade and government finances. \n10:15 – 11:15  SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT FOR UNDERREPRESENTED BUSINESSES \nUnderrepresented business owners have been hit especially hard during this pandemic. What does recovery look like? How are communities developing tools and program support to address these unique needs? This panel will explore support for Black and Latinx business owners and entrepreneurs. \n11:15 – 12:15 FROM TRAINING TO RETAINING \nAs part of this recovery\, workforce development has transformed. DESCRIPTION:Talbot County’s favorite prognosticators are back. \nAnirban Basu\, chairman and CEO of the Sage Policy Group\, will join M&T Vice President Gary Keith to discuss the current state of the economy and the prospects for recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. \nRather than holding a breakfast event this year\, the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce\, together with co-sponsors Tri-Gas & Oil\, M&T Bank\, and Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism\, will offer the symposium free via the Zoom platform from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on November 4. \nThroughout a 36-year career at M&T Bank\, Keith has provided economic research and analysis support to the bank’s executive management and commercial banking business units. In addition to giving frequent updates to business and trade groups\, he holds regular discussions with M&T’s commercial customers\, helping tie together the economic variables that describe the macro economy with real world decisions that businesses make every day. \nKeith has a bachelor of science degree from Niagara University and a master’s in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In addition to his economic analysis role at M&T\, Keith also manages the bank’s commercial market research department. \nBasu is chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group\, a Baltimore-based economic and policy consulting firm he founded in 2004.  He is among the country’s most recognizable economists\, in part thanks to his consulting work.
