SUMMARY:Washington Gas Multifamily Incentive Program
DESCRIPTION:As the region continues to plan\, design and deliver more multifamily projects\, Washington Gas developed the Multifamily Incentive Program (MIP) to serve as a valuable resource for developers of condo\, market rate rental and affordable housing projects. Whether your project is new construction\, a renovation\, small- scale or large\, the MIP can dramatically reduce upfront capital costs associated with integrating individual unit natural gas meters in multifamily projects. \nOn average\, MIP participants have received $1\,000 per unit\, with some recipients receiving funds to cover their internal piping cost completely. Among several benefits that the MIP offers\, developers can reinvest capital into other areas essential to their project’s success and most importantly\, tenants can enjoy the energy efficiency and cost savings natural gas provides. \nJoin us on November 30\, 2017 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at National Association of Realtors\, 500 New Jersey Ave. NW\, Washington\, DC 20001 to learn more about how you and your team can develop projects with natural gas. Following an introduction\, attendees will hear two case studies illustrating how developers benefited from the program. Topics to be discussed include: \n\nIntegrating Multifamily Incentive Program funding into affordable housing development and leveraging the incentive with other funding sources.\nThe value proposition of developing with natural gas; and the benefits to tenants and property owners of affordable housing.\nHow to qualify for the program.\nPositioning and designing your project to maximize incentive dollars.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers are as follows (pictured left to right):\n\nMike Henehan\, SVP\, Managing Director\, Bozzuto Development Company\nJennifer Eugene\, Sales Engineering Manager\, Washington Gas\nScott Altman\, Executive Vice President\, The Donaldson Group\nRobert Postell\, Senior Sales Engineer\, Washington Gas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nRegistration fees: This event is free to current HAND Members; Non-Member Fee: $75. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLunch will be served. Thank you to our sponsor Washington Gas!

SUMMARY:Partner event: Breakfast Briefing: A Business Response to the Opioid Epidemic
DESCRIPTION:Join Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen and her Special Advisor for Opioid Policy\, Evan Behrle\, for a conversation about how businesses and the business community can help fight the opioid epidemic\, while supporting affected employees. \nDr. Leana Wen is the Commissioner of Health in Baltimore City\, where she oversees the nation’s oldest health department and is reimagining the role of local public health. Facing an unprecedented number of people dying from overdose\, Dr. Wen issued a blanket prescription for the opioid antidote Naloxone to all of Baltimore’s 620\,000 residents. In two years\, the program has saved approximately 1\,500 lives. Other transformative projects include a collective impact strategy that has reduced infant mortality by nearly 40 percent in seven years; an initiative to get every child glasses who needs them; and a program to engage returning citizens and hospitals in treating violence as a contagious disease. \nA board-certified emergency physician\, Dr. Wen was a Rhodes Scholar\, Clinical Fellow at Harvard\, consultant with the World Health Organization and Professor at George Washington University. She has been published more than 100 articles including in The Lancet\, JAMA\, and Health Affairs. The author of When Doctors Don’t Listen\, she is regularly featured on NPR\, CNN\, New York Times\, Washington Post\, and USA Today. In 2016\, Dr. Wen was the recipient of the American Public Health Association’s highest award for local public health work\, the Milton and Ruth Roemer Award. Governing magazine recognized her in November\, 2017 as one of nine Public Officials of the Year honoring outstanding public officials who have made an indelible impact on the lives of the people they serve.
