SUMMARY:Overtime Overhaul Panel Session
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a critically important panel discussion regarding the “Overtime Overhaul”; a major ruling from the U.S. Department of Labor which increases the minimum threshold for salaried workers and makes sweeping changes to exempt/non-exempt status considerations\, effective December 1\, 2016. \nNew Ruling:\nTo have employees continue as exempt (“salaried”)\,\nthe new minimum salary threshold is $47\,476. \nWe all know that this is going to have a major impact on business… but what is this going to look like for your company? SUMMARY:Business Network for Offshore Wind: Working in Offshore Wind
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. offshore wind industry develops now! It is no longer just a vision in the distant future. The first GE 6 MW turbine was installed in Atlantic waters in early August. Starting this month\, the United States will have its first offshore wind project generating clean energy off the coast of Rhode Island. \nThe commencement of the U.S. offshore wind pipeline has also been established with the enactment of the Massachusetts Energy Diversity Act (H.4568). With the stroke of a pen\, the U.S. offshore wind pipeline – 1600 MW over the next ten years – has been positioned. This landmark legislation creates the demand required for businesses to make investments in the emerging U.S. offshore wind market\, which will provide numerous supply chain opportunities and thousands of jobs. \nIf you are a company looking either to diversify or to enter the U.S. offshore wind supply chain\, there has never been a better time to become educated\, involved and actively supportive of additional government policies. \nThis event will feature an informative replay of the September 9th webinar as originally presented by DNV GL\, followed by a panel of presentations with discussion. \nRegister at http://www.workinginosw.eventbrite.com

SUMMARY:Greater Baltimore Committee Breakfast Briefing: Understanding the Fair Labor Standards Act
DESCRIPTION:Join the Greater Baltimore Committee for discussion about the Fair Labor Standards Act\, which takes effect December 1\, 2016. \nHear from Harriet E. Cooperman\, Partner at Saul Ewing and an employment law expert. \nIn 2014\, President Obama directed the Department of Labor to update and modernize the regulations governing the exemption of executive\, administrative and professional (EAP) employees from the minimum wage and overtime pay protections of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). \nAlthough the FLSA ensures minimum wage and overtime pay protections for most employees covered by the act\, some workers\, including bona fide EAP employees\, are exempt from those protections. \nThe final rule updates the salary level required for exemption. Without intervening action by their employers\, it extends the right to overtime pay to an estimated 4.2 million workers who are currently exempt. \nIt also strengthens existing overtime protections for 5.7 million additional white collar salaried workers and 3.2 million salaried blue collar workers whose entitlement to overtime pay will no longer rely on the application of the duties test. \nRegistration fee for event is $25.\nTo be eligible for a refund the Greater Baltimore Committee requires a 72-hour cancellation notice. \nRegistration and breakfast: 7:30 a.m.\nProgram: Begins promptly at 8 a.m. \nFor event information and sponsorships\, contact:\nLisa Byrd\, Events and Business Development Manager\, at 410-727-2820 ext. 40
