SUMMARY:2024 SBAN Summit on Community Ownership
DESCRIPTION:When: November 14\, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 5 PM\nWhere: Virtual\nJoin the Small Business Anti-Displacement Network on November 14 for the 2024 SBAN Summit on Community Ownership! The virtual\, day-long summit will focus on long-term solutions that allow community members and stakeholders to control commercial assets\, land\, and enterprises. Community ownership can provide stability for small businesses and keep them in place in gentrifying neighborhoods. \nCome explore individual and collective ownership models that support BIPOC- and immigrant-owned small businesses and help them stay in place\, including commercial cooperatives\, community land trusts\, community investment trusts\, and commercial property acquisition funds. \nHear from small business advocates\, policymakers\, and other stakeholders involved in community ownership efforts across the United States and abroad! We’ll discuss policy priorities\, outline how to advance community ownership at multiple scales\, and get insights from SBAN case study authors and working group members. We’ll also provide opportunities for networking. \nThe Small Business Anti-Displacement Network (SBAN) is a network of organizations across the United States and abroad that work to prevent displacement of BIPOC- and immigrant-owned small businesses in gentrifying neighborhoods. \nThe summit is open to SBAN members and non-members. \nClick here to register. \nClick here to see the full agenda and speakers.

SUMMARY:2024 State of the Ports & Global Flavor Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Once a year\, leaders from the Mid-Atlantic come together to learn about the challenges and opportunities at Maryland’s ports.  \n\nSample wines and food from around the world at the Global Flavor Showcase\nLearn about key challenges impacting international trade at our breakout sessions\nNetwork with the influential leaders driving economic growth in our region\nHear the State of the Ports address directly from Maryland’s Secretary of Transportation\n\nAgenda \n4:00 PM Breakout Sessions \n\nKnown Unknowns on the Horizons for Supply Chains: Change is on the horizon for the supply chain\, and it’s not just a feeling. A new law is making its way through congress\, there’s rumblings of a merger from a trusted client\, or perhaps there’s a national election on the horizon. You want to be ready\, but the outcome is uncertain. How do you prepare when you don’t know exactly what you’re preparing for? Join us for a conversation around future planning where the only wrong move is to do nothing.\nThe Logistics of Workforce Development: Our ports\, airports\, roadways\, and warehouses would be rendered moot without the men and women working there and keeping things moving. But hiring and retaining that workforce is a constant challenge – especially in the face of ongoing technological disruption. Instead of fearing this change\, we should embrace it and push back on the narrative. New technologies are helping our employees\, making them more efficient than ever before\, freeing them up to develop their skills even further. Our workforce is our strongest asset\, and providing the tools\, time\, and support can bring dividends.\n\n5:00 PM Reception \nSample food and beverages from across the world without leaving Baltimore at our Global Flavor Showcase. \n\n\n5:30 PM State of the Ports Address\n\n\nMaryland is home to two of the largest transportation and trade meccas in the United States: the Port of Baltimore and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Once a year\, we are fortunate to welcome port leaders to give their take on the challenges and opportunities confronting our ports. \n6:00 PM Global Flavor Showcase \nNetworking and tasting continues\, followed by raffle and special giveaways.
