Berlin Announces Replacement for Director of Economic Development

Mayor Gee Williams announced today that Ivy Wells has accepted the position as Director of Economic and Community Development replacing the Town’s first director, Michael Day.

“I am extremely pleased that we were able to hire Ms. Wells who brings a wealth of experience along with a high level to creativity to the Town,” said Mayor Williams.

Ms. Wells comes to the Town with a significant amount of experience having been the Sykesville, Maryland  Director of Economic Development for the past six years. She graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising/Public Relations and Marketing.  A highly accomplished Economic Development professional, Ms. Wells is a certified Tourism Ambassador for the state, and a board member for the Community Development Network of Maryland.

Ms. Wells’ background, experience and achievements in downtown revitalization made her an excellent choice for the Town’s efforts to take the “Coolest Small Town in America” designation to the next level. “The tentative date for her to start working with the town is November 24th, however, everyone will probably see her helping with events and getting to know the merchants and residents much sooner,” said Town Administrator Laura Allen.

Ivy will be moving to Berlin in the very near future with her husband Shane. She has two grown sons and is looking forward to living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
