Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing strategies to grow the organization’s membership, enhance its visibility, increase its impact on the regional technology ecosystem, and advocate for its members. This leadership role requires close collaboration with businesses, government agencies, academic institutions, and community partners to advance NMTC’s tenets of promoting technology, innovation, and economic development in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy
- Implement the policies, programs, and strategic direction approved by the NMTC Board of Directors.
- Develop annual goals and objectives in coordination with the Board and track progress through monthly and annual reporting.
- Advise the Board on emerging opportunities, community needs, and strategic partnerships involving business, education, and government.
Membership Development
- Build and retain a strong and diverse membership base of businesses, government agencies, and academic institutions.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date membership database.
- Conduct periodic needs assessments of local organizations to align NMTC programs with member priorities.
Program Development & Event Coordination
- Plan and execute Council meetings, events, and educational programs that support technology advancement and economic development.
- Increase member and community participation through relevant and high-impact programming.
- Support STEM education initiatives and mentoring opportunities in Harford and Cecil Counties.
Marketing & Communications
- Promote the activities and accomplishments of the Council through:
- Social media channels
- Email campaigns (e.g., Constant Contact)
- Paid and earned media
- Sponsored and affiliated events
- Enhance community awareness of NMTC initiatives, events, and opportunities.
- Oversee and expand the inventory of regional technology resources, including maintaining a relevant and engaging website.
Grants & Funding
- Execute and manage the NMTC annual budget under Board direction.
- Maintain current grant funding from the State of Maryland, Harford County, and Cecil County.
- Identify, write, and manage proposals for new grant opportunities and funding sources.
Partnerships & External Relations
- Serve as the primary representative of NMTC at local, regional, and statewide events.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with:
- Regional agencies and economic development offices
- Aberdeen Proving Ground
- Harford, Cecil Colleges, and Towson University (for workforce development initiatives)
- Maryland Tech Council, Carroll County Tech Council, TEDCO, and other regional tech organizations
- Harford and Cecil County School Districts
- Support STEM education initiatives and mentoring opportunities in Harford and Cecil Counties.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, economic development, and technology sector management.
- Strong understanding of government, education, and business collaboration.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Grant writing and budget management experience required.
- Demonstrated success in membership development and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with military or government institutions.
- Familiarity with Maryland’s technology and economic development landscape.
- Background in marketing, communications, or public relations.
Working Conditions:
- Remote with local travel required.
- Evening or weekend event attendance.
Salary
- $45,000 – $55,000 annually.
- 20-30 hours per week average.
