2025 MEDA Fall Conference

When: October 30, 2025, from 8 AM to 2 PM

Where: Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach, MD

Theme: Talent is the Driver: Building Communities Where People Want to Live and Work

The 2025 MEDA Fall Conference will bring together Maryland’s economic development community to discuss strategies for building talent-attracting communities. In today’s hyper-competitive economic landscape, talent has emerged as a key differentiator in business location and expansion decisions. As demographics shift, remote work reshapes expectations, and workers increasingly prioritize quality of life alongside career opportunities, economic developers must rethink their approach to community building. The communities that thrive in this new reality will be those that understand talent attraction isn’t just about jobs—it’s about creating places where people genuinely want to live, work, and raise families.

In this keynote, Danny Twilley shares how West Virginia took this challenge and created an opportunity by turning ideas into action. Through the Ascend WV initiative, the state is embracing its greatest strengths—its people, places, and world-class outdoors—to attract new residents, spark innovation, and build lasting momentum. Learn how collaboration and adaptability are powering a “flywheel effect” of renewal—and what lessons other regions can take from West Virginia’s bold approach.
