Maryland Strengthens International Ties With Visit to the United Kingdom

BALTIMORE, MD (June 10, 2025) — Following an economic development mission to the United Kingdom earlier this month, which included leading a delegation of Maryland companies to the country’s largest cybersecurity event, the Maryland Department of Commerce announced that two global companies are planning to set up operations in the state.

Safetech Innovations, an innovative cybersecurity company that has been working with Maryland Commerce since February to “soft land” in the state, has confirmed plans to open an office in Maryland this fall. The company is currently part of Plexal, a U.K. innovation company and coworking space that turbocharges collaboration, which is also one of Maryland’s partners in the Soft Landing Exchange program. The program works with a number of global entities to help Maryland companies test out expanding to overseas markets at an affordable rate.

In addition, Data-Warehouse GmbH, a German company that provides cryptographic inventory management, recently received contracts with the National Institute of Standards & Technology and MITRE, and will be setting up a Maryland location within the Quantum Startup Foundry in College Park as part of the Maryland Global Gateway Soft Landing program. The company made the announcement following a meeting with Maryland Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. during Infosecurity Europe

“I am very excited to return home with two international companies added to Maryland’s burgeoning business community,” said Secretary Coker. “With their focus on new security innovations and techniques, Safetech and Data-Warehouse are the perfect additions to our state’s thriving technology sector. We look forward to officially welcoming them to Maryland and helping ensure their success in the U.S.”

As part of the U.K. mission, Maryland Commerce led a delegation of eight Maryland businesses to Infosecurity Europe. This is the seventh time Maryland has attended the conference, which attracts more than 13,000 industry professionals from around the world.

The companies that traveled as part of the Maryland delegation include:

  • Advantage Technology, a Frederick business that disrupts IT intelligence by challenging and transforming the traditional ways of approaching and utilizing technology.
  • Agemo Technology, a woman- and service-disabled veteran-owned business in Oxon Hill that specializes in cybersecurity and information assurance services.
  • Alertus Technologies, an emergency mass notification company in Baltimore.
  • Ardent Privacy, a Catonsville company that helps enterprises implement meaningful security and privacy programs aligned to their business mission.
  • BCR Cyber, a Halethorpe-based provider of IT and cybersecurity training, certification, testing, and job placement services.
  • RF Safety Labs, a Catonsville lab specializing in RF exposure and cybersecurity for connected and medical devices.
  • RioRey, a Bethesda company that designs, engineers and manufactures dedicated devices that defend networks.
  • Torpedo Line, a Gaithersburg woman- and service-disabled small business specializing in cybersecurity, business management, and digital branding fields.

As part of the delegation, each of the companies had access to the state’s booth, including meeting space and room to exhibit products and services to conference attendees. Participating companies were able to utilize the ExportMD grant program, which assists small and mid-size companies with traveling and marketing costs associated with international trade shows.

This visit to the United Kingdom underscores Maryland’s growing commitment to international trade and investment in advanced technologies. The state’s proximity to federal cybersecurity assets, thriving technology companies, and university-led research makes it a strategic location for foreign companies seeking access to the U.S. market.
