MEDA Celebrates Economic Development Week in Maryland

Highlighting Statewide Economic Initiatives During October 25-29

BALTIMORE (October 20, 2021) – The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) celebrates Economic Development Week in the state of Maryland. Held from Monday, October 25 to Friday, October 29, economic development’s efforts to create opportunities, inspire innovation, and enrich communities take center stage.

“Maryland’s economic developers have consistently moved the state toward recovery. They’ve adapted their tactics to fit the real-time needs of their communities, and their contributions are extraordinary,” observed Danny Thompson, MEDA President.

An exciting lineup of events puts economic development’s impact in the spotlight. On October 25 at 8:00 am, MEDA kicks off the week with a virtual Silent Auction in support of the Lofton Scholarship Fund. The Lofton Scholarship Fund provides MEDA members with financial support for professional development activities. The Silent Auction features a variety of items and experiences, and is accessible to the public online, with bids closing at 12:00 pm on October 29.

On October 26 at 4:00 pm, MEDA Young Leaders will host a virtual improv event designed to polish professional speaking skills in a comfortable environment. Partnering with Bird City Improv, the session will help young leaders communicate with confidence as they move their communities forward. The event is open to MEDA Young Leaders.

On October 28 at 8:30 am, MEDA will host a virtual Rural Economic Development Session, sponsored by PNC Bank, that addresses the current challenges facing Mid and Lower Shore industries. Delivered in a virtual format, the session will provide tools for resiliency, with a focus on equity and inclusion, resources, and financial support that are key to recovery. The event is open to MEDA members, as well as elected and appointed officials in rural communities.

In addition to MEDA-hosted events, Maryland’s cities and counties will announce proclamations, and hold special events and workshops that highlight their programs and priorities throughout the week.
