Governor Larry Hogan Addresses Cyber, Technology Companies in Toronto

Governor visits world’s largest urban innovation hub as part of trade mission to Canada
BALTIMORE, MD (September 27, 2017) – Governor Larry Hogan addressed Canadian cybersecurity and information technology companies in Toronto this morning at a roundtable discussion hosted by the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) as part of a four-day tourism, trade, and economic development mission.

“Maryland is the cyber and innovation capital of the nation, and I was pleased to share information about all we have to offer with some of Canada’s leading cyber and information technology companies,” said Governor Hogan. “Maryland has the highly-talented workforce, research assets, and confluence of highly innovative companies that provide an ideal environment for global companies to thrive.”

At the ITAC meeting, Governor Hogan promoted Maryland as an excellent location for information technology companies, citing the state’s growing cybersecurity industry, strategic location, and access to many key federal agencies focused on information technology. Serving as a leading advocate for the information technology industry in Canada for more than 65 years, ITAC champions the development of a sustainable digital economy and works to connect government, industry, and academia to expand Canada’s innovative capacity.

Governor Hogan also visited MaRS, the world’s largest urban innovation hub that serves as a launch pad for startups, a platform for researchers, and a home to innovators. Founded by civic leaders, MaRS works with entrepreneurs to help them access corporations, investors, mentors, and university institutions and labs to test their ideas. Addressing representatives from companies located at MaRS Discovery District, the governor emphasized Maryland’s recent ranking as the most innovative state in the country.

Governor Hogan is leading a Maryland delegation including Commerce Secretary Mike Gill and University of Maryland System Chancellor Robert Caret on a mission to Canada, which included a joint tourism and trade mission to Toronto with Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. The Maryland delegation will travel to Montreal on Thursday for meetings with a number of companies and business organizations.
