Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Announces FY2017 Community Legacy Awards for Baltimore City
BALTIMORE, Md. (October 18, 2016) – Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C. Holt today announced the awardees of the FY2017 Community Legacy Awards for Baltimore City. The announcement came during the launch of Maryland Community Development Week at the Empowerment and Wellness Center in West Baltimore.
The Community Legacy program provides local governments and community development organizations with essential funding and gap financing for important projects that will strengthen local communities, supporting housing and homeownership goals and attracting and retaining businesses. Projects include improving commercial facades, greening and streetscaping activities, renovating historic buildings for conversion into service or community centers, and rehabilitating blighted properties in downtown areas. It is one of Maryland’s most effective programs for promoting neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, tourism, and economic growth.
It is estimated that since 2002, the Community Legacy program has awarded nearly $22 million to 168 redevelopment projects in Baltimore City alone, leveraging more than $250 million in both public and private investment.
The FY2017 Baltimore City awardees are:
Baltimore Development Corporation: $75,000 for the Le Mondo project
Central Baltimore Partnership: $50,000 for the Legacy Homeowner Facade and Home Improvement Program and $75,000 for Barclay Park
City Life Community Builders: $200,000 for residential rehabilitation in the Oliver Area
Eagle’s Nest Outreach Center: $100,000 for the Healthy Living Program – Butterfly Eco Homes
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake: $125,000 for neighborhood revitalization efforts in Sandtown and Woodbourne-McCabe
Hamilton-Lauraville Main Street: $150,000 for Main Street Kitchen
Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition, Inc.: $100,000 for the Youth Opportunity Emergency Shelter and $380,000 for the Baltimore Food Enterprise Center
Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore, Inc.: $100,000 for the Gwynn Falls Parkway Porch Project
Park Heights Renaissance, Inc.: $150,000 for Loyola Northway 2600 facade and public improvements
Parks & People Foundation, Inc.: $250,000 for the recreational field at Auchentoroly Terrace in Druid Hill Park and $250,000 for the Collaborative Public Safety Project
TRF Development Partners: $250,000 for East Baltimore revitalization
Upton Planning Committee, Inc.: $150,000 for the Empowerment and Wellness Center
