State Leads Delegation to Arab Health 2018, Awards ExportMD Grants

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation of Maryland companies this week to Arab Health 2018, the world’s second largest healthcare exhibition. Held in Dubai, this is the fifth year Commerce has exhibited at the trade show, promoting the state’s healthcare assets and helping the nine Maryland small and mid-sized companies in the delegation connect with new partners and customers.

“Arab Health is one of the best opportunities to not only increase Maryland’s visibility in the global market, but also promote the state’s world-class healthcare assets to international companies looking to expand into the U.S. market,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “We are especially proud to be leading a delegation of nine growing companies from Maryland, several of which have attended with us before with outstanding results.”

The nine Maryland companies that traveled to Arab Health this year are ClickMedix (Montgomery County); Perineologic (Allegany County); Danae Prosthetics (Baltimore City); Harbor Designs & Manufacturing (Baltimore City); Hawkeye Medical (Prince George’s County); Medical Innovations, LLC (Prince George’s County); Segami Corporation (Howard County); Technology Digest, Inc. (Montgomery County); and Trideum Biosciences (Frederick County). This year’s delegation highlights the diversity of the life sciences industry through the state, as well as Maryland’s entrepreneurs, with six out of the nine companies being woman- or minority-owned businesses.

Joining the Arab Health delegation for the first time is Danae Prosthetics, a Baltimore startup with a focus on additive manufacturing. The company is working towards providing an online platform that allows users to create custom 3D printed covers for prosthetic legs.

“By participating in Arab Health, not only will we gain access to the Middle Eastern medical market, but the global market as well,” said Winston Frazer, CEO of Danae Prosthetics. “Maryland Commerce has played a huge role in giving our small company a way to grow internationally as fast as possible.”

Commerce recently awarded several ExportMD grants to local companies to help them expand into the global marketplace, and each of this year’s Arab Health attendees is using the program to travel abroad to the trade show. Additionally, US Medical Innovations, a lab equipment provider dedicated to helping eliminate cancer and improving lives, is using an ExportMD grant to host their own booth at the healthcare exhibition.

ExportMD grants are provided to small and mid-size companies on a monthly basis to assist with traveling and marketing costs associated with international trade shows. The next application deadline for the ExportMD program is March 1, 2018 and eligibility requirements can be found on our website.
