County to receive economic development award

Washington County’s Making Connections Campaign will receive an award from the Maryland Economic Development Association later this month.

The MEDA Awards will be held on April 29 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge. At the event, the county’s business development and public relations teams will accept an award for Economic Development Marketing for a small community, according to a news release from the county.

The award will recognize the Making Connections Campaign.

Washington County launched Making Connections in the fall of 2018. The campaign brings together several departments within county government to work with private and public businesses in forming partnerships.

The mission of the campaign is to help improve economic development, public safety, transportation and pedestrian access.

“It’s always exciting to see what projects organizations have been spending years on, and the Making Connections Campaign is a perfect example of an impactful project coming to fruition,” Pam Ruff, executive director of MEDA, said in the release. “It’s great to see how this project is bringing the private and public sectors together in order to improve Washington County.”

MEDA Awards celebrate people, projects and programs that are creating opportunities, inspiring innovation and enriching communities across the state.
