MARYLAND COMMERCE AWARDS NEARLY $500,000 TO HELP LOCAL BUSINESSES GROW GLOBALLY
BALTIMORE, MD (October 14, 2025) – Over the past year, the Maryland Department of Commerce helped 99 small Maryland companies grow with ExportMD grants to help promote their products and services in the global marketplace. The grants – awarded from August 2024 through August 2025 – boost businesses onto the global stage by helping finance the costs of marketing internationally including trade show fees and travel expenses.
“For 25 years, Maryland’s ExportMD program has supported economic growth in the state by helping local companies promote their goods and services across the globe. We’re proud to continue this important work,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “By encouraging international expansion, Maryland companies can connect with new customers, identify potential partnerships, attract more revenue to our state, and demonstrate Maryland’s goodwill worldwide.”
Businesses that received ExportMD funding over the past year were located in 15 of Maryland’s jurisdictions, representing each of the state’s five regions. Traditionally, many companies use the funds to offset travel expenses related to international marketing, but funds can also be applied to other marketing initiatives, ranging from website development to registration costs for trade shows and missions. BC3 Technologies, a medical device manufacturer, recently worked with Maryland Commerce to identify potential foreign markets for its hemostatic wound spray, which is changing the way that health care providers and first responders manage arterial bleeding. With help from the ExportMD program, the company is on the fast track to transform how the health industry handles wound care and life-threatening injuries.
“We’re proud to represent Maryland as an ExportMD awardee,” said BC3 Technologies Chief Executive Officer Wayne Grube, Jr. “The support from the Maryland Department of Commerce is helping BC3 Technologies bring our life-saving product, SEAL Hemostatic Wound Spray, to new global markets. This opportunity strengthens our mission to deliver simple, effective trauma care tools to those who need them most.”
Established in 1999, the ExportMD program provides matching grants up to $5,000 from Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade. ExportMD is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, which has awarded multiple State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grants to Maryland Commerce to help fund the program.
Applications for the ExportMD program are accepted on a monthly basis and the next application deadline is November 1, 2025. Eligibility requirements can be found on the Commerce website.
