Travel Message From Allegany County Tourism

This week, flash floods swept through parts of Mountain Maryland and left behind damage and disruption. Our hearts are heavy for the communities affected, the residents displaced, and the beloved places now in need of repair.

But as always, the spirit of Mountain Maryland holds strong.

That strength lives within our neighbors, our first responders, our unsung heroes, and every person who has shown up to help. Courage, compassion and a commitment to each other are engrained in our DNA.

While restoration efforts will continue across parts of Allegany County, most of our region – including the celebrated downtown districts of Cumberland and Frostburg, our state parks and forest, and many local businesses and attractions – remain open and ready to welcome visitors.

If you plan to travel to Mountain Maryland, we want you to know that visiting our region now will mean more than just a fun getaway. Today, it’s also an incredible show of support. Every meal enjoyed, shop visited, event attended, and reservation booked will help local families and businesses bounce back from this week’s events.

We remain in close contact with local officials, safety officers, tourism partners and trail organizations to share updates with travelers. Please check our “Travel Alerts” page before and during your visit to ensure a safe and informed trip:
