Governor Moore Welcomes NewCold and More Than 100 Jobs to Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD (May 29, 2025) — Governor Wes Moore today announced that NewCold, a global leader in advanced food logistics, is opening a cutting-edge cold storage facility in Washington County. The company is investing more than $275 million in a temperature-controlled, automated warehouse at 45 West Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown, where it will create between 125 and 150 new jobs.

“We’re thrilled to partner with NewCold to bring new jobs and new technology to Maryland,” said Gov. Moore. “Maryland is focused on growing our economy, investing in industries of the future, and making our state more business friendly. This will be Maryland’s decade, and it’s collaborations like this one that remind us why we continue to be a destination of choice for businesses looking to build and expand.”

NewCold’s advanced facilities use state-of-the-art proprietary technology, including automated storage and retrieval systems, to automatically move and store products in high-bay warehouses. These highly automated facilities offer a variety of high-skilled jobs for residents, creating the jobs of the future for decades to come.

“Since our founding in 2012, NewCold has a history of partnering with like-minded communities to foster economic growth and create high-quality employment opportunities,” said NewCold Founder and Chief Executive Officer Bram Hage. “We are excited to bring our innovative solutions and proprietary technology to the City of Hagerstown, contributing to its vibrant future.”

“We are committed to becoming long-term members of the communities in which we operate,” said NewCold President of North America Mike Shawgo. “We work to locally recruit and train teams to operate our facilities. By providing these high-tech roles, we create long-term career opportunities for residents.”

To assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Commerce is working to approve a $1,000,000 conditional loan through Advantage Maryland, with support from the City of Hagerstown.

“We’re excited to welcome NewCold to Maryland, where it will be able to serve international customers with ease,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “With access to numerous rail lines, interstates, and airports, as well as close proximity to the Port of Baltimore, our Mid Atlantic location will help NewCold expand its reach throughout the globe.”

NewCold’s investment in Hagerstown marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion and commitment to building resilient, efficient supply chains. The company looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Hagerstown community and contributing to its economic prosperity, saying that the city’s proactive approach and dedication to economic development has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

“The city is pleased to welcome NewCold to our business community,” said City of Hagerstown Mayor William McIntire. “This project will create 125 to 150 new employment opportunities for area residents. NewCold’s state-of-the-art, automated facility will require a number of technology and specialized workers. The new investment and quality, skilled jobs will be a boost to our economy.”
