12 Maryland Companies Receive ExportMD Grants

Maryland Commerce program helps companies promote goods, services globally

BALTIMORE, MD (June 2, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Commerce has awarded 12 small and mid-sized Maryland companies with ExportMD grants to help promote their products and services in the global marketplace. The ExportMD grant program helps businesses finance the costs of marketing internationally, including trade show fees, brochures and travel expenses. Eligibility requirements can be found on the Commerce website.

“Creating more jobs and opportunities for Marylanders is one of our administration’s top priorities, and the ExportMD program is a perfect example of how partnership with our small and mid-sized businesses can help us fulfill this goal,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Through this innovative program, we have been able to connect companies in every region of our state with global partners, helping to boost their sales, grow their operations and ultimately bring new economic development opportunities to Maryland.”

“The ExportMD program is one of the most powerful tools we offer to help Maryland businesses find new avenues for growth,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “The program not only helps companies market their products and services at global trade shows they otherwise may not be able to attend, but also offers expert guidance in navigating foreign trade and investment practices.”

Later this month, Maryland Commerce will lead a delegation of companies to Paris Air Show, the world’s largest aerospace industry event. Prince George’s County’s Orbit Logic, an ExportMD grant recipient, is part of the delegation and will be exhibiting at the international show for the first time.

“We are excited to join the Maryland Department of Commerce at the Paris Air Show,” said Ella Herz, chief operating officer of Orbit Logic. “This opportunity will bring us access to a global gathering of aerospace organizations that do not frequent the domestic tradeshows. We look forward to connecting with a worldwide array of potential customers for our satellite mission planning software.”

Established in 1999, the ExportMD program provides matching grants up to $6,000 as well as up to 40 hours of marketing consulting from Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade. ExportMD is funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, which awarded a $777,579 State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant to Maryland Commerce last year to help fund the program.
