As economic developers, we’re navigating a landscape where unpredictability is the norm—from shifting labor force dynamics to sudden market disruptions and policy pivots. The 2025 MEDA Summer Conference will bring together thought leaders and practitioners to explore how we can build economic resiliency that goes beyond recovery and moves toward reinvention.
Attendees will gain practical insights into strengthening workforce pipelines amid uncertainty, fostering local adaptability through planning and partnerships, and using scenario planning as a tool for community resilience.

By focusing on both individual empowerment and employer readiness, this approach not only helps workers bounce back but also builds stronger, more adaptable communities—critical for long-term economic vitality.

When disasters strike, economic development doesn’t pause—it pivots. In this session, we’ll explore how Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) play a critical role not only in disaster response and recovery but also in preparedness and long-term resilience. Because the traditional toolkit is changing, we will explore innovative solutions to mobilize capital towards projects that significantly reduce exposure to threats and hazards while increasing economic opportunities. This includes moving beyond grant dependency and conventional debt instruments to embrace investment strategies that prioritize economic development, social impact, and risk reduction, laying the foundation for thriving, future-ready communities.
