MCEDC – Senior Vice President of Economic Development

In this pivotal role, you will develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive economic development, manage a talented team of professionals, and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders across various industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in economic development or business leadership, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for making a difference in our community.

The Senior Vice President of Economic Development is a key member of MCEDC’s executive team, responsible for overseeing all business activities related to the attraction, retention, and expansion of businesses in Montgomery County. This full-time, exempt position reports to the President & CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

▪ Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with MCEDC’s strategic plan and the County’s Comprehensive Economic Strategy
▪ Manage and provide guidance to business development team to ensure efficient and effective execution of projects
▪ Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment
▪ Promote Montgomery County for business recruitment and retention at various events and meetings
▪ Create targeted recruitment and expansion strategies for key industry sectors (Life Sciences, Technology, National Nonprofits, Corporate Headquarters, Hospitality, and Real Estate)
▪ Advise the CEO on economic development expansion opportunities based on industry trends and competitive landscape

Essential Functions/Duties/Tasks:

▪ Exceptional leadership and strategic thinking skills
▪ Strong understanding of business growth fundamentals and economic development
▪ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
▪ Proficiency in data analysis, technical writing, and Microsoft Office Suite
▪ Ability to build relationships with public and private sector stakeholders
▪ Adaptability to change and ability to manage multiple projects under pressure

Education and Experience:

▪ 10-15 years of experience in economic development or business leadership
▪ Proven track record of leading and mentoring high-performing teams
▪ Experience in Montgomery County’s key industry sectors preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

▪ Travel within Montgomery County and beyond for meetings, events, and trade shows
▪ Ability to use office equipment and computers
▪ Occasional lifting of supplies and materials
▪ General office environment with moderate noise level

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
Job Location: Montgomery County, MD
Salary: $175,000–$190,000
