Jorgenson Consulting has been retained to conduct an executive search for a Deputy Secretary and Chief Commercial Officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (PA).

In January 2024, under Governor Josh Shapiro’s leadership, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania launched its first statewide economic development strategy in nearly two decades. This new strategy—focused intently on Pennsylvania’s competitiveness—will help the Commonwealth reach its full economic potential and ensure every Pennsylvanian has the opportunity to succeed by focusing on five key sectors: Agriculture, Energy, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, and Robotics and Technology.

The Position: The DCED seeks to hire a Deputy Secretary and Chief Commercial Officer who will play a central role in achieving the Commonwealth’s transformational economic development goals through strategic leadership in the design and implementation of DCED’s business development, project management, research, and marketing activities.

The Person: The Deputy Secretary and Chief Commercial Officer oversees and implements key economic development goals for Pennsylvania. This is a highly responsible professional in economic development and government administration, working to direct and coordinate critical elements of the comprehensive statewide strategic plan for economic development in the Commonwealth. The incumbent in this position will strategically lead enhancements in the design and execution of DCED’s business marketing and research functions, sales and business development operations, business investment and support, and export and international assistance. The occupant provides advice and counsel to the Governor of Pennsylvania and the Secretary of DCED for the attraction, retention, and expansion of business enterprises throughout the Commonwealth.
